3 Ways you Are Hypnotizing Yourself Daily

Updated: Oct 18, 2022

Have you ever driven your car to a familiar destination and don’t actually remember the drive there? Maybe you were taking a shower and mentally checked out for a few moments. These experiences are a form of self-hypnosis.

The topic of hypnosis can seem very taboo. When you hear about hypnotherapy you may have mental images of mind control and being made to do things you don’t want to do and then you’ll wake up and not know what just happened! This is far from what hypnotherapy actually is, a tool to leverage the sub-conscious mind to heal, move on from the past and develop new neuropathways to align with your future goals.

Hypnosis itself is a very common occurrence. We experience this relaxed state multiple times throughout the day without even realizing it! Fun fact- ALL hypnosis is self-hypnosis, no one can force you to be “hypnotized.”
There are ways you are hypnotizing yourself throughout your day that you can use to your advantage to mold your own mind toward reaching your goals.

One form of hypnosis is REPETITION. Repetition of messages, thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors. All of these aspects of yourself are being driven BY your sub-conscious mind, 95% of you, and have determined the results you have in your life today. We’ve all been “hypnotized” to believe in one thing or another- about ourselves and about life.
Some of us have been hypnotized to believe money Is evil or to have low self-esteem while others have a great relationship with money and have been hypnotized to embody high self-esteem. One way or another we all have internal programming that drives our everyday lives and experiences. The good news about this is that our minds have the ability to change and be DE-programmed from the beliefs and thoughts that have been holding us back and RE-programmed for ones that can assist us to living fuller lives.

Keep reading for 3 ways you experience hypnosis daily and how you can use them to your advantage to help you achieve your goals.:

1. What we say: We have all heard the saying words have power. There is truly power in the tongue. What we say consistently (there goes that repetition again) shapes our beliefs, drives our behavior, and ultimately creates our reality. In the book The Four Agreements, the first agreement is to be impeccable with your word. From a spiritual perspective, God created all with His word. He said everything with intention and then it was. Because we are of God, we have the same power to create our reality with the words we speak each day. Neuroscience shows us that all words you speak carry an energetic frequency. If everything you have spoken (to yourself and others) was a prayer being answered and they were all answered what would have been answered for you? Perhaps it’s time to to raise our standards of the words we speak and the conversations we have daily in order to up level our lives.

2. Messages you receive through media outlets (books, television, podcasts, music): Listening to music and “Netflix & chilling” are the most common way of people being “hypnotized.” Why? Our conscious minds (our critical factor and 5% of us) are ready to relax, step aside and escape- allowing direct access to our sub-conscious minds. Take a look at the daily messages you are allowing to penetrate your subconscious mind through the music/podcasts you listen to, the television shows you watch, and the books you read. Are you listening to things with a positive undertone or negative undertone? Our subconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between what we truly believe and what is reserved for entertainment purposes- it only takes things literally. If we consistently listen to news that is premised with fear, we then carry this fear in our minds all day long. This could increase anxiety, imposter syndrome, self-sabotage, and you may find yourself holding yourself back from things in life that you actually WANT to do.

3. People you surround yourself with: Bird of a feather flock together. I used not take this advice seriously. However, I’ve learned the significance in connecting and relating with people who want to achieve the same things as I do. This isn’t about cutting people out of your life but about being intentional about who you are surrounding yourself with. The people around you mirror back information to you about you-consciously & unconsciously. Energy and attitudes are contagious. You can seek people out with the same goals, ambitions, and values as you, and feel how supported you are to go after your dreams! Think about your short-term and long-term goals. What are you working towards? Do you have people you can go to who will uplift, motivate, and inspire you on your journey and if not, how can you begin to cultivate this community?
